Olivia Dudas created the Love Bugs in 2016 when she was 10. Through the Love Bugs, we are able to connect the community and help those in nursing homes. People from all over the world make homemade Valentines cards. Team leaders and their team personally deliver each card to every nursing home resident in Wayne County.
Olivia Dudas created the Love Bugs initiative when she was 10 years old in 2016. The Love Bugs was created to make residents of nursing homes and assisted living centers feel special on Valentines Day. Olivia asks for homemade Valentine cards to be made with no reference to health concerns. Snack foods are also collected for employees of the facilities. Store bought Valentines cards are collected for Riley Hospital for Children. This initiative begins on December 26th and runs through February 14th.
Each facility is assigned a Team Captain. The Team Captain assembles a team to help hand-deliver Valentines cards to each resident. The Valentines and snack bags are delivered within the week of Valentines Day.
In 2021, the Love Bugs went virtual. Crafty Bugs and Love Bugs helped out by making homemade Valentine cards. Those cards would then be delivered to their facilities and would be quarantined for safety.
2021 - 1,700 cards were collected and delivered.
2020 - 2,292 cards were collected and delivered.
